The Editorial Committee is responsible for planning, soliciting articles, editing, and publishing SSV Medicine. The Committee met in February to discuss topics for the March/April issue and to review data from the 2023 magazines. Topics included a series of interviews on “What I Wish I Knew” heading into medical school or residency, the Joy of Medicine work on violence, Medi-Cal expansion, and how to identify and handle narcissism.
The Emergency Care Committee studies issues related to emergency care services, trauma, patient transport and triage, disaster preparedness, and on-call issues within the region. The Committee also serves as liaison with government agencies responsible for emergency services, transport, and disaster planning, while providing quality improvement oversight to SSMVS’s SMART Medical Clearance Protocol. The Committee met in February to discuss expansion of SMART Medical Clearance expansion internationally and domestically.
The Health Equity Advisory Committee addresses racism and bias in medicine by developing best practices for medical groups, providing resources and education for physicians, and advocating for legislative policies that positively affect health outcomes for marginalized communities. This Committee did not meet in January or February.
The Historical Committee maintains and collects historical artifacts relative to the history of medicine, research local and regional medical history, and serve as docents for school tours of the Museum of Medical History. This Committee did not meet in January or February.
The Joy of Medicine Advisory Committee works to mitigate physician burnout by treating the effects on physicians and by advocating for systemic changes to prevent burnout at the source. The Committee also performs original research and plans the Annual Joy of Medicine Summit. This Committee did not meet in January or February.
The Nominating Committee vets and nominates candidates for the SSVMS elected offices and the SSVMS Delegation to CMA’s House of Delegates. This Committee did not meet in January or February.
The Public and Environmental Health Committee studies and makes recommendations regarding public and environmental health issues affecting the health and well-being of our community. The Committee met in February to discuss resolutions and next steps regarding presentations on reducing salt intake in the United States and climate change.
The Scholarship and Awards Committee administers the Medical Student Scholarship Fund and recommends special awards for members such as the Golden Stethoscope, Community Impact, Excellence in Advocacy, and Outstanding Medical Society Volunteer Awards. This Committee did not meet in January or February.
The SPIRIT Management Committee provides support for donated medical care to the Sacramento region’s uninsured and medically indigent patients. The Committee met in early February to reflect on 2023 donated services, discuss the impact of the 2024 Medi-Cal expansion, and focus on growth in 2024.
